19th Century Marble and Silver Blessing Plaque
with solid silver hallmarked sprinkler. The centre cartouche is hand painted on enamel with a scene of Madonna and child. The hallmarked silver sprinkler would be filled with blessed water every week at mass and a little then used to "wet the well" at the base of the plaque - just enough to extend your right index finger to make the sign of the cross every time you entered or left the house. Overall plaque length 12", the silver sprinkler 3"
